Funding for Speech Therapy

Paying for speech therapy can range from being easy breezy to a huge headache. If your health insurance plan covers speech therapy, than you are already off to a good start. However, there are a lot of reasons why a health insurance policy ultimately would not cover speech therapy. Today I want to provide links to additional funding sources that provide grants for speech therapy.

The United Healthcare Children's Foundation

UHCCF provides grants to children 0-16 that have a primary health insurance plan that either does not cover therapy services or coverage has been exhausted. Families qualify on basis of financial need, but the application is fairly easy and can be done online HERE.

I have worked with UHCCF in the past, and I think they are a fantastic foundation!

Small Steps in Speech

Grants are awarded to individuals from birth to 22-years and are not based solely on financial need. Set deadlines to apply are February 1, May 1, August 1, and November 1. The applicaiton can be found HERE.

Local Universities

Local Universities may provide free or low cost treatment that is provided by graduate students in search of their degree. Licensed Speech-Language Pathologists are required to supervise students that are providing treatment, so there is an experienced eye on all therapy that is being provided. Fresno State's Speech, Language, and Hearing Clinic can be found HERE.
